Lapiplasty 3D Bunion Correction Procedure With Dr. Kyle Lindow

Lapiplasty 3D Bunion Correction Procedure With Dr. Kyle Lindow
January 3, 2021EducationMedical Articles

Today we want to talk about a procedure Dr. Kyle Lindow has mastered for bunion correction. This procedure utilizes a new technology that allows for 360 degrees of deformity to be corrected.

He decided to start performing the Lapiplasty, or 3D Bunion Correction surgery, because of its unique way of correcting the bunion deformity.

In regular bunion correction surgery, the joint of the big toe is fused and/or “shaved” down to remove the bump. However, this does not correct all parts of the bunion.

The bunion isn’t just limited to the visible bump on the side of the foot – its cause is a misalignment of the joints of the first metatarsal (toe bone). This misalignment not only causes the joint to move “out” but the joint is also slightly rotated as well.

What You Need To Know About 3D Bunion Surgery

This is why Lapiplasty is called “3D bunion correction,” because bunions are actually a deformity that happens in three dimensions. The technology offered by the Lapiplasty allows Dr. Lindow to more easily treat the entire deformity. These deviations are as follow:

  • The first metatarsal bone of the big toe shifts medially.
  • The first phalanx of the big toe shifts laterally
  • The bones also tend to rotate.
  • And the bones may also shift up and down.

Traditional 2D bunion surgery can fail up to 70% of the time because it does not correct all three aspects of the bunion deformity. The Lapiplasty procedure, on the other hand, addresses all three dimensions of the bunion deformity and reduces the chance of recurrence down to 3-5%.

If you have a bunion and are considering surgery, Lapiplasty is a fantastic option for permanently correcting the bunion – and has a shorter recovery time as well. Click below to schedule your consultation today!
