How To Make Your Health Goal Resolutions Stick

Happy New Year from the Warner Orthopedics & Wellness Team!
With every new year, most of us quickly put pen to paper with ambitious goals to achieve – and unfortunately, many of us fall short of achieving them.
Today, we’re going to give you our best tips and tricks for helping your 2022 New Year’s Resolutions stick:
Start Small:
We don’t want to see you in physical therapy because you pulled a muscle with a too-heavy exercise routine! Wanting to exercise more in the new year is a fantastic resolution, but if you don’t start small and then build your new routine gradually, you could injure yourself – leading to long days on the couch as you rest and recover.
Our goal with guiding you into any new health routine is to make sure it lasts, and that you can build on it. Start small – instead of exercising in the gym every day, try starting with a yoga class a couple times a week to build muscle tone that can protect your balance and improve muscle tone around joints.
From there, you can start taking longer walks with weights, choosing a new, active hobby like tennis, or even jogging. But first, build a stable routine of foundational health.
Yoga is a perfect option, since it’s easily customizable depending on your skill level and can really help you check in with your body, identifying areas of soreness and tension before you move on to more strenuous workouts.
Tackle One Resolution At A Time
When you make that New Year’s Resolutions List, you’re probably excited to start them all at once. But really, it’s best to change one thing at a time. If you want to exercise and start to wake up earlier, for example, try just waking up earlier and journaling in the mornings.
Once the early starts feel natural, start a gentle yoga flow in the mornings before your day begins.
As you work through your resolutions, think of how they can build on each other. This can help keep you motivated as you build habits that work together for your benefit.
