Recap: Our First Yoga Workshop

We held our inaugural yoga workshop at Warner Orthopedics and Wellness this past Saturday! It was a great event with wonderful participants. I was personally very excited to see people out on a Saturday taking control of their own wellness and health.
These brave individuals learned about yoga and participated in a guided class.
Peyton Fisher of the Peyton Fisher Yoga Company was the resident yogi and did a wonderful job of assisting the students and teaching them. Peyton is one of the nation’s best yoga instructors in my opinion.
I taught a brief lecture on the history of yoga, what it actually is and the many proven health benefits.
Peyton and I together are able to provide personal modifications for all asanas (poses and positions) as indicated by each student’s limitations and needs.
For example, we modified the down-facing dog position for many participants due to limits in core strength, ankle ROM, knee arthritis, spinal issues and deconditioning.
Peyton and I have a philosophy together that if a student just comes to class and simply moves a benefit will be derived. We teach the breathing mechanisms of yoga and these may be mastered by all.
Most of the primary health benefits of yoga are due to the breathing techniques.
How We Adapt Yoga To Your Needs
Peyton is a master at teaching progressions.
That is, he is able to assess the abilities of his students and make modifications as necessary.
When applicable, I can also provide an analysis of the structures that need modifications and provide more precision to the yoga protocols.

We are very much looking forward to our weekly classes that kick off next weekend.
We plan on having more basics workshops going forward in an effort to continue our community engagement and education program.
Our classes are meant to be unintimidating, welcoming and for those who really need yoga to age optimally.
These weekend classes are a great way to start your new yoga practice without worrying about striking poses. Our goal is to help you start practicing yoga – even if it’s your first class.
