The Difference Between Medical Marijuana & Regular Marijuana

Marijuana (Cannabis sativa) is a plant that contains a psychoactive chemical called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which can produce a range of physical and psychological effects.
The plant is often used for both medical and recreational purposes, but there are some key differences between the two uses.

What Is Medical Marijuana
Medical marijuana refers to the use of marijuana to treat certain medical conditions or symptoms. It is typically recommended by a doctor and can be used to help manage conditions such as chronic pain, nausea, insomnia, anxiety, neuropathy, and muscle spasms. In many States, medical marijuana is legal and can be purchased at a licensed dispensary with a valid recommendation.
What Is “Regular” Marijuana
Recreational marijuana, on the other hand, is often used for enjoyment rather than for medical purposes. That said, many people self-medicate with recreational marijuana for a variety of conditions. It is typically smoked, vaporized, or eaten, and can produce a feeling of relaxation and euphoria. In some states, recreational marijuana is legal and can be purchased at a licensed dispensary without a recommendation.
What Is The Difference?
There are several key differences between medical and recreational marijuana. One of the main differences is the purpose of use. Medical marijuana is used to treat specific medical conditions, whereas recreational marijuana is used for enjoyment.
Another difference is the legal status of the two uses. In many states, medical marijuana is legal with a recommendation, whereas recreational marijuana is illegal. However, some states have legalized both medical and recreational marijuana.
Additionally, the way that marijuana is used can differ between medical and recreational purposes. Medical marijuana is often taken in a controlled manner, such as in tincture form or as an edible with a known number of milligrams per item, whereas recreational marijuana is often smoked or vaporized. Today, the flower form of marijuana is actually recommended for medicinal purposes as well. It is simply quite difficult to monitor the actual dosage when that delivery method is utilized.
As always, consult your doctor before using either medical or recreational marijuana. They may be able to provide you additional information, guidance, or a medical recommendation to use marijuana. Additionally, be sure to check the laws in your state and local jurisdiction surrounding both medical and recreational marijuana.
(A caveat: If you are considering recreational or medicinal marijuana but plan on purchasing this on the ‘street’, don’t. Marijuana sold in licensed and legal dispensaries is often more expensive than that you can find on the black market, however, you are paying for having no risk of fentanyl being laced into the drug.)
